In this 3-day itinerary through the Algarve, you can discover some of the wonders present in the Western Algarve on a scooter, staying at the Tivoli Lagos hotel.
The western Algarve is made up of the municipalities of Albufeira, Silves, Lagoa, Portimão, Monchique, Lagos, Vila do Bispo and Aljezur, but the places where we will focus more on this itinerary will be Lagos, Sagres (municipality of Vila do Bispo) and Portimão.
Day 1: Lagos - Sagres
On the first day, after arriving in Lagos, you can have lunch at the Mar d’Estória Restaurant, enjoying a fish cataplana, which is one of its most famous dishes.
After lunch, we recommend spending the afternoon at Praia do Beliche, in Sagres, which is roughly a 39-minute scooter ride from Lagos. Praia do Beliche is located in a cove between Cabo de São Vicente and Ponta de Sagres, where surfing and bodyboarding are very common. In the 16th century, this beach contained an important tuna fishery, and in order to protect it, and even the fishermen who worked there, the Fort of Santo António do Beliche was built. This fort was destroyed by the troops of the British privateer Francis Drake, having been rebuilt in 1632.
After enjoying an afternoon at the beach in Sagres, you can still watch the sunset at Cabo de São Vicente, which is considered one of the most beautiful sunsets in the Algarve. As it presents a unique landscape, we advise you to go 30 minutes before, so you can watch the sunset peacefully, as it is one of the places that most attracts tourists.
After sunset, you can return to Lagos, where we advise you to have dinner at the Prato Cheio Restaurant. This one is known for its variety of fish dishes. It should be noted that this restaurant is only open for dinner from Wednesday to Sunday.
Day 2: Lagos
On this day we advise you to spend the day in Lagos, where you can take a boat trip in the morning, where you can watch the dolphins that are swimming along the coast. The boat departs from Lagos marina, so we advise you to rent a scooter, to facilitate faster access to the marina.
After the boat trip, you can enjoy a wonderful meal at the Sunset Restaurant and Bar, which is well known for its seafood and fish dishes.
In the afternoon, you can enjoy sunbathing at Praia Dona Ana.
Praia Dona Ana is located in an area known as Costa D’Oiro, a name that derives from the tonality that the rocks around the beach have. In 2013, by Condé Nast Traveller magazine, Praia Dona Ana was considered the best beach in the world and the most beautiful in Portugal. In 2015, it was elected the best Portuguese beach by TripAdvisor. Due to the fact that it is very popular in the summer season, it is sometimes difficult to find parking near the beach, with scooters being an excellent option for transport and mobility.
Before dinner, you can watch the sunset at Ponta da Piedade, which is one of the most emblematic places in the Algarve, attracting many tourists every year, making it rival the Gruta de Benagil, in Lagoa, given that its sunset sun is unique, as it gives a golden hue to the caves of Ponta da Piedade, apparently a treasure of nature.
After sunset, you can enjoy typical Algarve dishes at Restaurante O Camilo, such as the black pork cataplana with clams. This restaurant is about 4 minutes by scooter from Ponta da Piedade and 8 minutes from the Hotel Tivoli Lagos.
Day 3: Lagos - Portimão
On this last day you can go to Portimão, which is 33 minutes from Lagos, on the N125. Where you can enjoy a day at the beach, more specifically, at Praia da Rocha.
Praia da Rocha is named after the rocks that lie between the sand and the sea. Despite being a very popular beach for tourists from all over the world, in recent years it has received the Mundialito de Futebol de Praia, which is played in a stadium built on the beach and which can hold up to 3000 people.
For lunch, we recommend the O Retiro do Peixe Assado Restaurant, where you can enjoy one of the best Algarve delicacies, the grilled sardines. This one is 4 minutes from the beach.
